Navman R300 GPS Speed and Distance Sport Watch Review

I bought two, one for me and one for my girlfriend.

That was over five years ago. Mine just went bad. My (ex)gitlfriend bought a more expensive GPS and now is going to give me her W300 (thats what it was called then).

When it goes bad I will buy a more expensive GPS.

But over 5 years of constant use isn’t bad.

navman times 8 – Jack Richardson – Highland,Ca USA
This makes the 8th (eighth) Navman I have purchased in as many years. I buy them for my wife for her hobby, horseback riding. They only last a year so warranty does not help. Also trying to register them is so hard it’s almost not worth it, They don’t include a warranty card in their paperwork and the website is a dead end. Also no phone number to call to register. I wish I could find another product like it that she could use. If you have any suggestions please let me know.

Garmin eTrex Summit Handheld GPS Review

I’ve checked this GPS out in the toughest test and I guess you get what you pay for, this model can display the profile for up to 25 miles on the screen , but when you download the data the profile is very hard to re create on the PC, I’ve tried using several kinds of download software and then Harvard Graphics or excel , with the same result, a horizontal scale problem.

Every check I have made on its accuracy shows no problem , just this end of the line processing, perhaps I’m the only user trying to print off the profile

Garmin eTrex Summit Handheld GPS Overview

The eTrex Summit comes on the heels of the extremely popular eTrex, which was designed for both marine and recreation use. This new all-in-one navigation device for the outdoor enthusiast is the first combination GPS, altimeter, and electronic compass. The electronic compass provides bearing information when you’re standing still and the altimeter determines precise altitude, so you can tell how high you’ve climbed and your rate of ascent.Like its predecessor, the eTrex Summit boasts a powerful 12 parallel channel GPS receiver and comes packaged in a small, sleek case with operating buttons located on either side of the unit. The case is completely waterproof to withstand immersion in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. The eTrex Summit: it is what the hard-core outdoorsman has been waiting for.

Garmin eTrex Summit Handheld GPS Feature

  • Palm-size global positioning system (GPS) pinpoints location anytime, anywhere–regardless of cloud cover or weather
  • Automatic track log with two-way navigation; stores 10 custom tracks
  • Navigates up to 50 waypoints in sequence with animated graphical interface
  • Waterproof case; adjustable, backlit LCD; battery-save feature
  • Compatible with optional Garmin MapSource software for downloading trip and waypoint data (not map compatible)

Garmin eTrex Summit Handheld GPS Specifications

Amazon.com Product Description Palm-size, lightweight, and waterproof, Garmin’s eTrex Summit is a 12-channel handheld global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver. The Summit’s easy-to-use menu lets you create and view waypoints, save and view track logs, calibrate the compass and altimeter, access setup features, and more. Its trip and elevation computers calculate a range of data, including direction of movement; total and average ascent and descent; current, average and maximum speeds; trip odometer; and much more.

The Garmin eTrex Summit is a simple, compact GPS device. View larger.

Besides appreciating its small size, boaters and outdoorsmen will also be happy with the eTrex’s unique button layout design. All the buttons are located on either side of the unit. The benefits of this design are two-fold. First, the eTrex is a breeze to operate with just one hand, and, second, with the buttons on both sides of the unit the bulk of the front of the device is dedicated to the large LCD display with backlight. The eTrex is so simple, it only sports five buttons–Page, Power, Up, Down, and Enter. Garmin also designed this tiny GPS to be completely waterproof so it can handle an accidental splash or dunk and continue to perform.

Behind the waterproof protection, you’ll find the proven performance of a 12-parallel-channel GPS receiver, which will run for up to 16 hours on just two AA batteries. The antenna is internal, and the external power and data connector are protected as well. In addition to determining your location, the eTrex creates, names, and saves a location as an electronic waypoint in its memory–with room for up to 500 individual waypoints. This allows you to navigate back to a point any time you want, from any location–or, with Garmin’s TracBack feature, you can reverse your track log and navigate your way back home. And once you start moving, the GPS provides other data, like speed, direction of movement, time and distance to destination, and more.

In addition to these basic features, the eTrex provides one more critical benefit: peace of mind. With GPS, you know where you are, where you’ve been, and where you are going. And since you always know your way back home, you can concentrate on enjoying yourself outdoors, on the water, or wherever your travels may take you.

NO GPS UNITS – David Hall –
I AM STILL WAITING TO RECEIVE THE TWO GPS UNITS I ORDERED ON 9-25-08
I SURE HOPE TO HAVE THEM BY XMAS !!

No mapping capability at all… – Richard W. Johnson – Denver, CO
Just keep in mind that if you buy this product, you will not have the capability to load any Mapsource data, or any map data at all. The unit does not come with even a rudimentary database, and although there is an optional (and riduculously overpriced) PC interface cable, you won’t be able to upload anyting into the GPS unit. No street maps, no topo maps,… nada. Other comparably priced units have this capability, which seems to me to be absolutely essential if you actually want to use a GPS unit to be able to navigate, which, let’s face it, is the only reason that you would buy one.

Lowrance Endura Out and Back 000-0125-38 2.7-Inch Portable GPS Navigator Review

Great little GPS for the money. I have seen some pretty nasty reviews of this product online but it looks to me like these were long before the Endura had a 1.1 and 1.2 software update available. Mine came in the mail with the 1.2 update so I didn’t have to do anything special. Never hurts to check for updates though. I am not seeing the other complaints at all. I actually purchased mine based on recommendations from other users on the [...] forum. Am guessing the software updates fixed the older glitches.

On performance, the start up and GPS lock is under a minute but not as fast as I have seen with other GPS products. Accuracy is impressive though as it gets great satellite lock next to buildings, under evergreen trees, etc. Even picked up WAAS several times and EGNOS satellites once. Average position accuracy seemed to be between 9 and 13 feet. Always under 20 which is still pretty good for a sub-0 GPS.

Used to an older eTrex so the software is quite a bit different but I don’t think different is bad in this case. Menus seem to be pretty easy to navigate. Seems to offer a lot of ways to customize what you are looking at and in what order the pages sequence (you can turn pages or map details off if you don’t want to see them too#.

I mainly hike and hunt but have started doing a little geocaching too. I had been paperless geocaching with my iPhone and the Out&Back provides much of the same functionality and ease of use – just with a much better GPS lock. Loading in waypoints and trails seems to be pretty straight forward if you are at least minimally familiar with the benefits of GPX file format #there is a reason why [...] and many other web sites stick to this file type for trail files).

All in all, I am pleased with the overall performance and very pleased with what I got for the money.

Cabin Fever and Anxious Anticipation – rhymegirl34 – Alton, NH
Alright, cabin fever has been driving me crazy and has led me to start going through all my hiking gear in anticipation of Spring hiking weather. As part of that, I finally broke down and bought my first GPS online – the Lowrance Out&Back.

I didn’t want to pay a fortune but did want something that was pretty easy to learn and had the ability of adding maps, trails, and waypoints from the web later as I have more money and know better what I want. So far, I really like it. Of course, time on the trail will truly tell if this is as good as it seems to be in my house. Looking forward to it though.
